Organizing blood donation drives has never been more challenging. With the increasing demands on our resources – time, people, and funding – bloodmobile organizers have to look for effective ways to send out the message to all Singaporeans – Give Blood. Give life.
Blood drives have to compete with a host of other activities and commitments in the busy lifestyle of the average Singaporean. And according to a recent national survey by AC Nielsen, there is a sizeable number of Singaporeans out there who believe that blood donation is important but have yet to take that first step to becoming donors.
In response to these challenges, the Bloodmobile Organisers’ Seminar, the third since its inception, was held on 29 January 2005 at the Fort Canning Lodge. The event was organized by the Singapore Red Cross Blood Donor Recruitment Programme and supported by the Bloodbank@HSA. For the 118 participants from 55 bloodmobile organisations attending the seminar, it was a great time for personal and professional growth; a valuable opportunity to step back from the day-to-day responsibilities and share best practices and insights in the motivation of blood donors.
The seminar also provided a workshop for the three major groups to discuss the findings and implications of the national survey on the perceptions of blood donation. The proposed three-year publicity plan and activities also gave bloodmobile organizers an opportunity to reflect the direction that we are heading and how we can accomplish our mission in such challenging times.
