The formation of a Blood Donors Club (BDC) was mooted by Mr Chan Soo Sen at the Launch of the National Blood Donor Recruitment Programme in April 2001.
The purpose of a BDC is to facilitate the networking of blood donors to advocate and promote the importance of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation in Singapore. Members can help to recruit new donors through club activities and role modeling. The BDC can provide a channel for donors to keep in touch with each other and to provide a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie as special people with a common interest in helping others.

A three prong approach was taken to evaluate the interest level of forming BDC among our pool of regular blood donors. A two-week survey conducted at the Bloodbank@HSA, a public forum on Donorweb and a focus group discussion conducted at the Bloodbank@HSA.
- 100% of respondents agree to the formation of a Blood Donors Club to advocate voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation.
- More than 80% voted for a one club concept with the formation of interest group sub-clubs.
