About 400 secondary 2 students from Dunman High School attended a talk and tour of the Bloodbank@HSA in the month of April, to learn more about the national blood programme. This is part of an educational programme which the Singapore Red Cross has with Learning Journey that is held on Wednesdays for schools that sign up for a visit to the blood bank.
The main objective of this programme is to educate and instill awareness on the importance of blood donation amongst students. It also serves as a platform to address the myths and misconceptions about donating blood. Students are taken on a guided tour of the blood bank where they see and learned more about the process of blood donation as well what happens to the blood after it has been collected.
In addition, students are given the opportunity to interact with the blood donors in the blood donation room. To end the educational tour, students were invited to participate in a quiz to find out how much they have learnt about blood donation.
